Burt brings a rare blend of deep technical expertise and legal acumen to Ten7 Consulting. With over a decade of mechanical engineering experience and a deep understanding of complex technical systems, Burt provides comprehensive IP counsel to companies ranging from early-stage startups to established enterprises. His practice centers on intellectual property law, with particular emphasis on trademark development and protection, copyright matters, trade secrets, and strategic IP planning for emerging companies.
Burt's approach goes beyond traditional legal services as he actively collaborates with clients throughout the business and product development process, from initial concept through brand development and IP protection strategy. His hands-on methodology includes utilizing four 3D printers and SolidWorks CAD software to help clients visualize and develop their products and brands. Before entering law practice, Burt spent over a decade as a mechanical engineer, gaining extensive experience with sophisticated systems including turbine engines, rockets, and missiles. This technical foundation, combined with his MBA in Finance, enables him to understand both the technical challenges and business implications of his clients' innovations.
During law school, Burt developed his intellectual property expertise at the Naval Surface Warfare Center and a major law firm, where he worked on IP matters across diverse technology sectors. As an entrepreneur himself, having founded three startups himself, Burt understands the practical challenges of building and protecting a business. His trademark practice has helped numerous businesses establish and protect their brand identity in competitive markets, while his comprehensive approach to intellectual property ensures clients receive well-rounded protection for their creative works and proprietary information.
Burt holds a B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University, an MBA in Finance, and a Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University. He is licensed to practice law in Alabama and Washington D.C., focusing his practice on federal intellectual property matters and has clients throughout the United States.
When not practicing law, Burt enjoys spending time with his wife and five children, taking them hunting and fishing whenever possible. He shares his passion for golf with his kids while continuing to pursue his interest in product design and development."
